The Douglas C53D Skytrooper was made for the Army Air Force during the early years of the war. It was designed to carry paratroops and tow gliders, however, it was also used to transport the wounded and carry cargo.
USAAF S/N 42-68835 is one of 150 C-53Ds built by Douglas Aircraft at Santa Monica, California (Factory S/N 11762), and delivered to the USAAF on July 12, 1943. It was assigned to the 72nd Troop Carrier Squadron, 434th Troop Carrier Group, while undergoing training with the 101st Airborne Division before departing for overseas in September 1943.
Christina Ochsner was born in Houston, TX where she studied photography at G.W. Carver high under Dave Renner. She worked on B&W photography, developed her own film and photos. Christina now lives in Sacramento, CA where she continues the art of photography. Now she does both color and B&W. As much as she misses the darkroom, she is learning the digital world of photography. She hopes to one day have a darkroom of her own where she can still enjoy the old with the new. Christina favors B&W photography but also loves colorful nature photography. She hopes to captivate her audience with the beauty of the world the way she sees it.
