Merchant Marine Act of 1936
The Merchant Marine Act of 1936, provided for establishment of Federal training for merchant marine officers. The U.S. Merchant Marine Cadet Corps was officially founded March 15, 1938 under the auspices of the U.S. Maritime Commission, chaired by Joseph P. Kennedy (father of President John F. Kennedy), a position taken over by Admiral Emory Scott Land.
In January 1942, the Maritime Commission purchased 10 acres on Coyote Point, San Francisco Bay, hastily built 11 buildings among the eucalyptus trees, and formally dedicated the facility on August 29th, 1942. In November 1944, 528 Cadet-Midshipmen were enrolled at San Mateo.

Christina Ochsner was born in Houston, TX where she studied photography at G.W. Carver high under Dave Renner. She worked on B&W photography, developed her own film and photos. Christina now lives in Sacramento, CA where she continues the art of photography. Now she does both color and B&W. As much as she misses the darkroom, she is learning the digital world of photography. She hopes to one day have a darkroom of her own where she can still enjoy the old with the new. Christina favors B&W photography but also loves colorful nature photography. She hopes to captivate her audience with the beauty of the world the way she sees it. The following website has some of her work offered on different items such as tablet cases, stickers,...
